St. Cassian’s Centre and the Kintbury Experience – Berkshire UK.

Located in the Berkshire countryside in the UK, originally St. Cassian’s Centre was a school for novitiate Brothers, however, in 1975 Brother Damian Lundy had a new vision for the centre. Br Damian realised that, there were less Vocations for Brothers in the UK and more need for a retreat centre. He opened the Centre to young people, working alongside Brothers Joe Hendron and Dominic Green and St. Cassian’s Retreat Centre began.

The centre was firmly founded on The Good News and was specially immersed in the importance of experience: experience of community, a sense of God, positive self-image, regard and respect for others and insight into our world.  Today we still focus on these themes with the young people and adults who visit, keeping Br Damian Lundy’s vision of welcome, awareness, reconciliation and good news present in each retreat.

With current changing times, The ‘Kintbury Experience’ has adapted to include online and outreach ministry to remain accessible to as many young people as possible, truly meeting students where they are.

The team is made up of volunteers and permanent retreat coordinators. The volunteers, aged between 18 and 30 dedicate a year, from August to July, working in the centre. Their main roles include: leading presentations, workshops, games, prayers, outdoor activities and much more.

St. Cassian’s Centre is owned by the De La Salle Trustees and we are very fortunate to have two De La Salle Brothers who live within our community, Brother Terry and Brother Bernard, both of whom are still a vital part of the ongoings of the centre and integral to our ministry here.

St. Cassian’s Centre is able to accommodate international volunteers and have hosted team members from Malta, Mexico, Bolivia and Brasil. If you wish to join our team download the form of interest or send an email to info@lasallevolunteers.global for more information.
